Gideon the Brave: Transforming Lives Through Design

When I started Savvy Giving by Design Virginia, it was because I believed every home should be a sanctuary, especially for families facing tough times. We were deeply honored by a recent article in The Winchester Star about how Savvy Giving VA was able to help the Scheutzow family and their brave son, Gideon. A Brave Young Boy and His Family

The Scheutzows, a young family on Reliance Road near Middletown, have been managing the challenges of raising five energetic children in their cozy farmhouse. Their lives were profoundly impacted by the birth of their son, Gideon, who has a rare and severe heart condition known as Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia and MAPCAS.

Despite numerous surgeries and frequent cross-country trips for treatment, Gideon remains a joyful and spirited presence, earning him the nickname “Gideon the Brave.”

Community Support

When the Scheutzows faced significant financial strain, the community’s support was overwhelming. A fundraiser helped them manage travel and medical expenses, highlighting the generosity of those around them.

A Special Transformation

Understanding the emotional toll on the Scheutzow family, we at Savvy Giving by Design Virginia decided to help. We organized a complete renovation of the 5 children’s bedrooms, creating personalized spaces that reflect their interests and bring comfort during a challenging time.

We also tackled the lack of air conditioning in their farmhouse, with the help of local businesses, to ensure the family’s home was a cool and comfortable haven.

Looking Ahead

The Scheutzows continue to face challenges as Gideon’s medical journey is ongoing. They’ve launched a Go Fund Me page to assist with future expenses, ensuring they’re prepared for upcoming needs.
